A joint exhibition of works by James Bland and Ashraf Hanna; two internationally acclaimed artists who work in different mediums, who have never met and live in different parts of the country, despite these differences, we have found common ground.
The artists’ work embodies the same core structures. Surfaces appear to focus on woven textures roughened by brushstrokes and tools- colours follow the same tonal hues of strong low tones and pops of electrifying highlights. Every grey is balanced with a contrasting colour. There is a distinct dialogue between the contrasting fluid and hard edges of Hanna’s vessels and the curves and angular marks in Bland’s portraits.
