This accomplished pencil drawing brings together all the elements so sought after in Lowry’s work. A monumental mill complex and smoking chimney anchor the composition, asserting the powerful industrial presence that defines his most celebrated imagery. Likewise, the foreground is animated by the familiar cast of characters that populate his finest scenes: children mid-play, couples in conversation, solitary figures in motion, and, of course, the much-loved dogs amongst the scene.
Provenance
Private CollectionGiven directly by L.S Lowry to Lefevre Fine Art Gallery on 10th June 1960 and was sold on 19th January 1961. It was assigned the stock no. 219/60.
