Signed and dated 1960, this pencil drawing is a character study — a magnification of Lowry's famous register of matchstick men. Three suited figures are rendered elongated, with exaggerated postures and characterful faces bordering on caricature. A small sketched face in the background adds Lowry's characteristic wit. A strong example of his mature graphite portrait work.
