This work depicts the interior of the iconic Manchester Art Gallery. This exhibition includes several of these interior scenes of the Gallery, which creates a wonderful juxtaposition to the cityscape works also on display. There is an undeniable grandeur to the painting's subject matter. These works show a pious environment, a hidden sanctuary for artists and the public alike, concealed away from the manic bustle of the streets. The rooms and the art held within them offer a moment of quiet reflection. Pointon’s application of paint honours the classical period of art that features within the works - the richness of tone and complexity of colour used mirrors the Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces. The artist has once again proven his adaptability and range within these paintings.
