Andrée was a cultivated and intelligent individual, who spoke English with almost no trace of a foreign accent. Andrée was ambitious both for herself and her husband, it was indeed Andrée who encouraged Valette to exhibit. They shared a love of art and literature as well as walking and travel and by the standards of the period they were and adventurous couple. There are very few paintings of Andrée as being a teacher at the University she had little time to sit and model for Valette. In the portraits that were painted she is often depicted with serious and solemn features which are less flattering than in some of the few photographs of her.
Valette was a founder member of the 'Association des Artistes Foréziens' in 1930 based at St Etienne, and showed his work regularly at its exhibitions.
