A signed pencil portrait of a young woman in a wide-brimmed hat, drawn with confident line and soft shading. The reverse bears a classical head in profile, likely studied from an antique plaster cast — linking the sheet to Lowry's training under Adolphe Valette, a period he recalled: "I got strangely fascinated by those antique casts... my teacher, Mr A. Valette, thought there was something in it [Lowry's artworks], he didn't know what." A rare double-sided glimpse into Lowry's formative years.
