Biography

Matthew Thompson is a young artist originally from the Huddersfield area. He has been painting since 2007 and completed his final year at the Manchester School of Art in 2013.

Even now, this young artist has established a distinctive style of painting using oil paints as well as mixed media of paints, charcoal and pastels creating a passionate and expressive take on everyday urban life.

'The urban environment has always played a key role in my work which is predominantly concerned with the experience of living in the city. I paint my experience honestly and unpretentiously, sometimes taking a romantic view of city life and at others portraying the melancholy and isolation of the city. I hope that the viewer will recognise the locations/ situations and consider their own experiences of urban life. Much of my work is in the form of passionate and expressive paintings on paper, board and canvas using a variety of media'.
