Jane Waksman British
In her twenty years of sculpting Jane’s works can be found in private collections across
the UK, Middle East and United States. She has been frequently exhibited at galleries in
London and Manchester and has a loyal following of collectors. She has also been
privately and publicly commissioned; public work can be found in both public and
private collections in the UK and overseas.
Jane first started working in plaster and casting in Bronze but her love of natural
materials drew her to stone carving. She first learned to carve in Carrara where she
was taught by master stone carvers and still works there in the same studio today.
Jane’s stone work has been heavily influenced by both Brancusi and Maillol by
searching for a purification of form. She strives to reduce the form she is creating to
its absolute essence so that the stone she has chosen is able to shine through and
reveal its full natural beauty. The choice of stone selected for each carving always
dictates the form of the final piece.
Jane’s focus is always on achieving a balance between the identity of the natural
material and her own direction and mark making. She strives to leave as light a
touch as possible on the stone and to let the natural beauty and past life of the stone
shine through.
