Biography

Chris Hagan (b. 1974) began his fine art practice in 2017, focusing on figurative and landscape-based works using canvas, paper, and mixed media. His work is known for its expressive colour palettes, dynamic brushstrokes, and layered textures, creating a sensory and immersive experience. Drawing inspiration from found imagery, history, and personal narratives, he explores themes of memory, detachment, and transformation.

Deeply connected to his Irish heritage, Hagan's work often reflects on rural life, folklore, and historical events from Northern England, Wales, and Ireland. His paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia while engaging with contemporary issues of identity and place.

Since establishing his artistic career, Hagan has gained significant recognition, with works held in private collections across the UK, Europe, North America, and Asia. His talent has also been acknowledged through accolades such as being shortlisted for the King & McGaw’s Artist in Residence (2016), winning the Delphian Gallery Open Call (2023) and  was also a finalist in the Jackson’s Painting Prize (2023).
