Biography

Ian Mood was born in 1972 is a contemporary British artist renowned for his evocative landscape and seascape paintings, he grew up in Stoke on Trent and studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol. He has become a contemporary artist with an international reputation and divides his time between his home in the Potteries, Staffordshire, and the United States. 

His work captures the shifting vastness and unpredictability of landscapes, often reflecting the dynamic English weather. Art historian Michael Howard notes that Mood seeks to portray how, during a single walk, one can experience all the vagaries of the English weather system—from sudden downpours to unexpected flashes of brilliant light breaking through clouds. 


Ian has exhibited at Bath Society of Artists, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery in London and Manchester Art Fair he is represented by numerous established galleries both in the UK and US. He also has Works held in private and public collections including Keele University Art Collection.


As a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society of Staffordshire Artists and Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) Ian regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase Plein Air Award in 2014. 


2019, In addition to his exhibitions, Mood has undertaken artist residencies with prestigious institutions and as such collaborated with the National Theatre during their production of "The Madness of George III" ( with Mark Gatiss) and the Royal Exchange Manchester during "Mother Courage" (with Julie Hesmondhalgh ).


2023 Ian held his first solo show in New York.


He has previously exhibited at Bath Society of Artists, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair and Manchester Art Fair


2024 May Ian took over a market stall as an on-site studio on Stoke Market. Across the month he produced a series of drawings and paintings celebrating the vibrant community of the market capturing both the people that worked there and the visitors.


2024 his work was shown with the Venice Biennale, Rome Art Fair, 

St Ives Society of Artists 

The Royal Insitute of Oil Painters.
