Nicola Mcmanus

Nicola is a painting graduate of Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Upon graduation, Nicola was awarded the Robert Gordon University Heritage and Archive Collection Purchase Prize. Nominated by her lecturers, she was put forward for, and won the Freeland’s Painting Prize.  Awarded a Kinross Scholarship by the Royal Scottish Academy, she travelled to Florence this year to research and develop a new line of work, which she is currently working on.

By exploiting the possible translucent and opaque qualities of paint through a process of careful layering, Nicola engages with the medium to tease out her subject concerns. Drawing predominantly  from the natural world, her delicate designs allude to the fragmentation of her own memories, in which nature was most precious.
