For ten days from Saturday 13th July, Matthew Bourne will be showcasing a brand new range of paintings for a solo exhibition at Contemporary Six. Over 20 abstract landscapes will be on display, each capturing the wild power of nature: with colour, texture, incident, and risk, residing on the boundary between observation and abstraction. Matthew has put together this superb collection over the past year-and-a-half, and we'd love for you to join us at the preview between 12-4pm on Saturday July 13th to meet the artist, and view his innovative paintings in the flesh.
"Bourne's paintings have gone from strength to strength over the years I have represented him. He now has a great following at the Gallery, with collectors all over the country, in Europe, and the United States. He is a keen hiker and climber, so I expect Bourne's solo exhibition to appeal to everyone who similarly values the outdoors, and how contemporary art and nature collide".
This is Matthew's first major solo exhibition at the Gallery — the venue which has championed his work for over nine years. One of the first artists to be represented by Contemporary Six, his work has flourished remarkably ever since. Bourne chooses whatever method available to him to make his marks: he flicks, smudges, pours, sprays, spreads, scrapes, rubs, scribbles, and dribbles the paint, resulting in a canvas that is almost a sculpture, a work that is as much about the process of painting as the subject.
Matthew's exhibition celebrates the raw power of nature: its cycles, rhythms, and energy, bursting off the canvas with life. His paintings, like vials filled with thunderstorms, are particularly attractive to those who need an explosion of colour on their walls.
Works will be available to view on the website from Wednesday 3rd July, and will be priced from £300, with large showcase pieces available for under £2,000. Whether a large or miniature painting, you can be sure that Bourne's abstracts will deliver the expression you are looking for. Contemporary Six offers the Own Art scheme, allowing clients to purchase a piece of art over ten interest-free payments.
