Lino cutting is a printing process invented in the early 1900’s as an alternative to Wood Cut printing. This is a ‘relief’ printing process in which the white areas of the image are cut away; effectively making the image in reverse. The tile is then coated in a layer of oil based ink using a specially designed roller and then either printed by hand or in a press.

Chris does several reductions on his colour prints, working back into the lino tile and repeating the process, adding different colours and extra details. Because of this intensive process, some of the prints are a culmination of a months work.

“I have had a fascination with the art of printmaking for years, and have been heavily influenced by advertising posters of the 1920’s & 30’s. I attended various printmaking courses in 2008 to get me started and have now recently extended my studio for a purpose built print room to practice this art.
